What not to do in RPA?

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has gained an edge over the other technologies in the recent past.Implementing an RPA solution may sound ideal, but always think before you ink! There are various roadblocks which have to be cleared before we decide to implement RPA. Let us walk through them now.

Automating applications which are not completely perfected.
  • The IT world has many applications which get updated regularly and have data formats that keep changing. RPA works best when application interfaces are static, processes do not change and data formats are stable.
  • It is always wiser to consider using RPA if we have a large legacy application as a part of the process whose functionality works, has no bugs and does not need any new features to be added or development of additional applications for the existing process to work.
Is your organization indeed ready for RPA?
  • Many organizations feel that once a bot is deployed, they can just walk away forever, but in reality once the bots are up and running is when, the real task of the team begins. There has to be sufficient hardware infrastructure and knowledgeable IT support team who can sync hand in hand when there are changes given by business in process/new updates are made.
Not a good idea to deploy RPA broadly
  • As rightly said by Dale West, “Live one day at a time and make it a masterpiece”.
  • Get the foundation strong always. To begin with, implement easy processes first and then build on them to bring in more complexity once the base is strong. Break the process into smaller pieces and then integrate them to have an end to end solution.
To summarize, RPA can deliver great results if we avoid these major pitfalls and think ahead to plan well before implementing them.
